Superficial Chemical Peels

Chemical peels can help improve the look and feel of the skin without surgery. They work by removing superficial, epidermal skin cells and stimulating the production of new cells.

At our practice, we offer light, superficial peels, aimed at leaving you with a healthy, rejuvenated complexion. Deeper, more intensive peels tend to leave the skin raw and can be too aggressive for some conditions. While these may be an option for those who require more extensive correction for fine lines, wrinkles, or uneven skin tone, most people do not require such an intense peel. The light and superficial chemical peels we offer can help rejuvenate the skin and improve the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, as well as uneven pigmentation, aging skin, sun damage, as well as acne scarring.

My Philosophy
Consultation

If you are considering a chemical peel, you can request a consultation with one of our registered clinical estheticians. A staff member will contact you to discuss the treatment.

Frequently Asked Questions

How is a superficial chemical peel performed?

For the most part, patients do not need a topical numbing cream before their superficial chemical peel. The chemical peeling agent is applied to your skin with a sponge or brush, is left on for a few minutes and is then neutralized. This step exfoliates and stimulates the skin. Because the peel is more superficial than other, deeper peels, there is little to no downtime.

How does a superficial chemical peel work?

All chemical peeling agents have a “keratolytic” action, meaning that the uppermost layer of the skin, called the epidermis, is removed. This stimulates the production of new epidermal cells which helps to improve skin texture and colour.

How long does it take?

Light chemical peels generally take about a half an hour to an hour, depending on how long the peel should be left on the skin (this will vary according to the level of damage).

Who performs a chemical peel?

A licensed esthetician will be performing your chemical peel. These estheticians have extensive training and experience in working with various chemical agents to help improve your facial skin.

When is a chemical better than a dermal filler or botulinum-based wrinkle treatments?

Superficial chemical peels are designed to improve skin texture. Injectable fillers are used to soften deeper folds, such as the laugh lines. Botulinum toxin is used to soften certain dynamic lines caused by repeat muscle action, such as the frown lines and crow’s feet. Therefore, these three procedures are designed to treat different problems but are complementary and can be used together to rejuvenate the complexion. You can meet with one of our skin care specialists or our nurse injectors to receive a consultation. They can assess your skin and determine the level of correction necessary.
